Action Items
- Verifish to continue to liaise with the Marine Institute to further develop improved data collection to inform use of CPUE as a Harvest Control Rule.
- Discuss further with Marine Institute and FIP participants about how to manage effort in response to CPUE fluctuations.
- BIM to investigate whether this can be linked to registration of gear under Single Use Plastics Directive.
- Verifish to investigate further the role of technology in both data collection and effort management.
- Verifish to liaise with meeting participants and BIM on re-establishing an alternative bait project.

Action Items
- The meeting agreed on a set of Management Objectives and Fishery Progress will be informed of these.
- Verifish will go back to the Marine Institute to discuss the possibility of basing a Harvest Control Rule on Catch Per Unit Effort.
- A draft workplan for 2020 was discussed and a final version agreed on.
- It was agreed that Verifish would look at whether there was EMFF or other EU funding available for developing partnership data projects with industry.

Action Items
- The discussion document on the potential establishment of a lobster FIP will be forwarded to the NIFF for circulation to the RIFFs.
- A standard procedure for deployment and assessment of the fluorescent pots performance will be adopted and a further update will be provided at the next meeting.
- An initial meeting has taken place with the Marine Institute to discuss data collection and HCRs and a follow up meeting has been scheduled.
- A further meeting or conference call regarding the bait project will be organised.
- BIM to check on budget remaining for the bait project.
- Bait project progress will be included in the FIP workplan.
- Further work will be done on chain of custody and traceability and it will be included as an agenda item for future meetings.
- A discussion on potential management objectives took place and a shortlist of candidate objectives will be circulated in advance of the next meeting.

Action Items
- A further short communication piece to be circulated to fishermen regarding ETP and other data requirements.
- A discussion on the management objectives for the fishery to be included on the agenda for the next FIP meeting.
- Nofima to be asked to attend a FIP meeting once the trial of the most recent batch of bait had been completed.
- Further work on the data project to support the aims of the FIP to be carried in advance of the next FIP meeting.
- Discussion document on the creation of a Lobster FIP to be circulated.

- Letter to be written to the Minister voicing the FIP’s concerns in relation to clawing of crab.

Next Meeting of Crab FIP
The next meeting of the Irish Brown Crab Fishery Improvement Project will take place in the Citywest Hotel, Dublin from 10 to 12 on Wednesday the 26th June 2019. All members of the FIP are welcome to attend.
